BIDDING OVER THE OPPS NTs.

Breakdown their NT range by HCP

Over Strong NTs(16) goal is to interfere. Bidding is not constructive

Over Weak or Mini goal is to penalize or make a partial or game. Bidding must be constructive.

Do you want to do the work to play two separate systems.

Over a Strong NT I would bid at any vul. except red vs. white; add a seventh heart and I would bid at red vs. white.

Over a weak NT I would Pass. Partner will play me for constructive values and I don’t have them.

Strong NTs. Any range with 16 or more.

Goal: Enter safely.

Direct Seat: Much safer to offer partner a choice of two suits at the two level.

Balancing Seat: Don’t worry about HCPs. If the opponents have passed out 1NT they should have < 24 points. The less you have, the more your partner should have.

How to bid when Partner Doubles:

One Common technique is AS IF Partner Opened 1NT.

This means that no matter what rho does your bids mean the same thing as if partner opened 1nt.

1NT(10-12)       D            P             2C Stayman

                                                                2D transfer

                                                                2H transfer  and so on.

In general with good hands you would pass the double, so bids will show weakness.
