BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                                            September 3, 2003

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present: Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Beatrice Kemp, Josie Mitchell, Bill Burks, and Carolyn Eckert.

1.      Minutes: of the August 2003 DBAA Board meeting were approved.

2.      Financial:   Bill Burks submitted financial reports for July.

3.  Specialty Games:

·        Novice Game: The kickoff event will be Saturday, Sept 20th at 7:30 pm.  There will be no entry fee for this kickoff event.  Susan Wolfe and Bill Burks mailed out approximately 1000 letters.  To date only 65 have been returned for various reasons.  Nancy Watkins will direct this game and will receive inquiry calls.  Carolyn Eckert and others will bring cakes and other ‘snack’ foods will be purchased.

4.  Old Business:

  • At the Unit meeting at the Peachtree Sectional in September, Jack suggested that Beatrice Kemp promote the idea of reviving and re-establishing the several different championships games which were played in the past.  The trophies housed at the Atl Dup Center were originally intended for these championships.
  • If people want to pay by check for the Casino Night tickets, then checks can be made out to DBAA.

5.  New Business:

  • An additional $1.00 will be charged for the Charity Game scheduled for Sept 17 at the Unit Game.
  • ACBL is mildly encouraging the 2005 National Committee to change the session times to 10:00, 3:00 and 8:00pm to replace the usual times of 9:00, 1:00 and 7:30pm.
  • Josie Mitchell suggested sending a letter to all novice players who participated in the recent MABC Regional in Atlanta thanking them for coming and encouraging them to continue participating.  Jack was concerned about the cost of postage outweighing the value.  Beatrice Kemp proposed sending out this letter just prior to next year’s regional rather than sending a letter now.  No further action was taken.

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.  Next meeting:  Wednesday, October 1, 2003 @ 6:15pm

Respectfully submitted,

Carolyn Eckert
