BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                                            November 6, 2003

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present: Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Beatrice Kemp, Bill Burks, Gabriel Fadel, and Carolyn Eckert.

1.      Minutes: of the October 2003 DBAA Board meeting were approved.

2.      Financial:   No financial reports.

3.  Specialty Games:

·        Novice Game: Nancy Watkins has been on stand by status as director for the Novice games on Wednesdays.  Since, no new novice bridge players are attending currently, she will be relieved of her standby status.  Jack will get a better mailing list of eligible players and target revising the novice game after January.

·        GNT Qualifier:  Games will be scheduled for Nov 19, Jan 28, Feb 25 and Mar 24.

·        November 12, 2003 Game:  In lieu of giving away a turkey(s), four (4) $20.00 gift certificates will be given to the top E/W and N/S winners.

·        Annual Holiday Party:  The game will be scheduled for December 17, 2003.  Jack or Susan will ask Jonathan Slaney to prepare the food for the game with a limit of $300.  People will be encouraged to bring a dish if they want to.

4.  Old Business:

  • Trophies:  Jack clarified the different championship games which were held in the past.  The winners of these games had their names engraved on a special trophy that is housed in a display cabinet at the Bridge Center.  Because these championship games and trophies represent a history of bridge in the state of Georgia, an effort should be made to continue their existence.  A committee of Unit 114, headed by Beatrice Kemp, will meet on Friday, Nov 7th to review the idea of reviving the old trophies or initiating new trophies.  It was suggested that the following championship games should be re-established: Board-A-Match, Open Pairs, Special Knock Out, and Non-Life-Master.  These games were originally held at Sectionals and the idea is to continue with this concept.  All ideas from the committee will be presented at the December Unit Meeting.

5.  New Business

  • The Casino Night Fund Raiser for the 2005 Nationals was a roaring success!

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.  Next meeting:  Wednesday, December 3, 2003 @ 6:15pm

Respectfully submitted,

Carolyn Eckert
