BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                                           December 3, 2003

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present: Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Beatrice Kemp, Bill Burks, Gabriel Fadel, and Carolyn Eckert.

1.      Minutes: of the October 2003 DBAA Board meeting were approved.

2.      Financial:   August, September and October financial reports approved.

3.  Specialty Games:

·        Novice Game: Jack anticipates a large crowd at the Atlanta Sectional in Dec.  Bill Burks will produce a flyer highlighting the benefits of the novice game on Wednesdays and circulate it at the Sectional.  A kickoff game should be scheduled for January and player fees will be reduced.  Nancy Watkins will work all novice games.  It was suggested to have a speaker for each novice game highlighting some aspect of bridge.

·        GNT Qualifier:  Games will be scheduled for Jan 28, Feb 25 and Mar 24.

4.  Old Business:

  • 2005 Nationals:  Beatrice Kemp suggested charging $1.00 as a fund raiser for the Nationals.  Jack commented that we should probably have sufficient funding without this additional charge and we did not want to put that type of burden on local players.

5.  New Business

  • DBAA web page costs: Approved: Pay Larry Rich $30 per quarter ($10 per month) for managing the DBAA web page.
  • Mid Chart Convention Use: John Lowell discussed with Jack that he thought Mid Chart Conventions were allowed at the Wed and Friday night games at the Bridge Center.  Beatrice Kemp noted that the DBAA has always allowed people to use Mid Chart conventions if the opponents welcome playing against the systems.
  • Multi 2 Diamond Convention:  Beatrice Kemp suggested that a speaker be asked to present the multi 2 Diamond convention to A players at the Bridge Center in order to learn the system for better defense against it.  Jack suggested that the appropriate forum for this would be at the Sectional to reach a larger audience.  A lengthy discussion ensued as to the appropriate forum.
  • Atlanta Sectional Costs: Bob Heller sent an email to Jack commenting that with the advent of the new location plus the New Year’s Eve party that we will probably go over budget for the Atlanta Sectional by approximately $1500.  ACBL has increased costs for tournament sectionals.  Two options were discussed: 1) remain at $7.50 entry fees and take a loss; 2) increase entry fees to $8.00.  The second option was approved.

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.  Nextmeeting:  Wednesday, January 7, 2004 @ 6:15pm

Respectfully submitted,

Carolyn Eckert
