BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                                           March 3, 2004

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present: Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Bill Burks, Kevin Collins, Josie Mitchell, Gaby Fadel and Carolyn Eckert.

1.      Minutes: of the February 2004 DBAA Board meeting were approved with the addition of Bill Burks in attendance.

2.      Financial:   No reports given.

3.  Specialty Games:

·         Novice Game:  Jack did ask Bob Heller if he can produce an email list of players for our novice game.  To date, Bob has not sent out an announcement to the players.  Jack will follow up with Bob.  Flyers for the novice game will be reprinted and Bill and Carolyn will distribute them at the March 10-14th Sectional to players sitting at all the limited games.

·         GNT Qualifier:  Games is re-scheduled for Mar 31.

·         Change of Rank Game:  Ninety-eight letters where mailed to eligible players for the Change of Rank Game scheduled for April 7th.   Included in the mailing is an informational flyer on DBAA.  Change of Rank qualifiers include those who have obtained the Life Master status or higher.

4.  Old Business:

  • 2005 Summer Nationals:  Jack is in discussion with ACBL concerning a request to change the dates of the Nat’ls.  Currently, Jack wants to maintain the original dates as scheduled and expects ACBL will make some concessions if the dates are changed to accommodate ACBL.  Although the times for the events are still in discussion with ACBL, Jack wants to maintain the original plan of 10:00; 3:00 and 8:00.
  • Free Play Coupons:  DBAA would like to further discuss efforts to promote the coupons.
  • Promotion Campaign:  The following ideas ARE STILL UNDER DISCUSSION to:

1) increase bridge membership; 2) increase the number of bridge teachers and provide financial support where needed: and 3) increase awareness of DBAA.

Sponsor programs to get people interested in becoming bridge teachers.

Support or give financial assistance to teachers.

Sponsor a lunch at the March Sectional and invite directors, teachers, and others for a “Brain Storming” session to come up with ideas on supporting teachers, getting more teachers, and increasing bridge membership. Carolyn will put something together for review at next meeting.

Due to an over crowded schedule, this did not happen at the March Sectionals.

Add a link on the web page to a map of area bridge clubs.

COMPLETED:  3/15/04.

Develop a flyer on DBAA, advertising its mission, information and web page.  The flyer will be distributed at all Sectionals, Regionals and local clubs and sent out with all mailers.

COMPLETED.  3/04

Find out cost and of an ad in the AJC, possibly near the Bobby Wolfe column.  The ad would attract new bridge players seeking lessons or club information.  The DBAA web page would be listed for contact.  In addition, Susan Wolfe would offer a phone number to a 2nd line in her house as the DBAA hot line.

Bill Burks has received a binder on costs and will review.

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.  Nextmeeting:  Wednesday, April 7, 2004 @ 6:15pm
