BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                                           May 5, 2004

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present: Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Kevin Collins, Josie Mitchell, Gaby Fadel and Carolyn Eckert.

1.      Minutes: of the March 2004 DBAA Board meeting were approved.

2.      Financial:   No reports.

3.  Specialty Games:

·         Novice Game:  Beatrice Kemp expressed concern about continuation of Novice game.  After promotion of the game at the Dec Atl Sectional, two tables of novice players came but that has since dropped off.  The life of the novice game will be difficult without the ‘follow through’ necessary to stimulate novices to remain with bridge.  Beatrice will discuss with Dan Plato to have the game reinstated on the Dup Center Monthly Calendar and for Dan to receive the profits from the Novice Game.  If no further success then DBAA may have to consider suspending promotion of the game.

·         Change of Rank Game:  Great success.

4.  Old Business:

  • Promotion Campaign:  The following ideas ARE STILL UNDER DISCUSSION to:

1) increase bridge membership; 2) increase the number of bridge teachers and provide financial support where needed: and 3) increase awareness of DBAA.

Sponsor programs to get people interested in becoming bridge teachers.

Support or give financial assistance to teachers.

Sponsor a lunch at the March Sectional and invite directors, teachers, and others for a “Brain Storming” session to come up with ideas on supporting teachers, getting more teachers, and increasing bridge membership. Carolyn will put something together for review at next meeting.

Jack to schedule session during Regional in Atlanta on Wed, Sept 1

Find out cost and of an ad in the AJC, possibly near the Bobby Wolfe column.  The ad would attract new bridge players seeking lessons or club information.  The DBAA web page would be listed for contact.  In addition, Susan Wolfe would offer a phone number to a 2nd line in her house as the DBAA hot line.

Bill Burks has received a binder on costs and will review.

5.  New Business:

  • Future Atlanta Sectionals:  Some dates for future sectionals are unfulfilled. Jack and others are looking at new sites.  With so many Regionals and now 2005 Nationals in Atlanta, DBAA may have one or two less sectionals than regularly planned.  Jack is in discussion with the Ravinia Hotel for possible future sectionals but no dates are currently available.

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.  Nextmeeting:  Wednesday, June 2, 2004 @ 6:15pm

Respectfully submitted,

Carolyn Eckert
