BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                                           June 2, 2004

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present: Jack Feagin, Bill Burks, Beatrice Kemp,
 Susan Wolfe, Josie Mitchell, Gaby Fadel and Carolyn Eckert.

 

1.  Minutes: of the June 2004 DBAA Board meeting were approved.

 

2.  Financial:   Jan, Feb, March 2004 submitted.

 

3.  Specialty Games:

Novice Game:  After meeting with Dan, Beatrice Kemp reported that:

·         Dan delighted to 1. Receive the proceeds from the Novice Game: 2. Will reinstate the Novice Game on the Duplicate Center Calendar; 3). Wants the director to provide any and all initiatives and necessary follow through with phone calls to prospective players to ensure viability of the novice game.

·         Jack will get players to provide mini lessons before the game for novice players.

·         DBAA will initially cover all costs, including ACBL fees, associated for the Novice game to ensure growth of the game until it reaches sustained viability.

·         Director Costs:  DBAA will provide incentives to the director to increase the game size

a.          1st game: director receives $30.00

b.          On subsequent games, if there are 1-2 tables, director receives $30.00

c.          If no tables are in play, the director receives $0.00

d.          For 3 full tables, director receives a base salary of $65.00

e.          For each full additional table, the director will receive $5.00

·         DBAA will review costs, proceeds and status of the games progress in 3 months (end of Sept)

 

Club Championship Game:  June 23, 2004

 

4.  Old Business:

Promotion Campaign:  The following ideas ARE STILL UNDER DISCUSSION to: 1). Increase bridge membership; 2) increase the number of bridge teachers and provide financial support where needed: and 3) increase awareness of DBAA. 

 

·         Sponsor programs to get people interested in becoming bridge teachers.  Still in discussion

·         Support or give financial assistance to teachers .  Discussion after “Brain Storming” session.

·         Sponsor a lunch at the March Sectional and invite directors, teachers, and others for a “Brain Storming” session to come up with ideas on supporting teachers, getting more teachers, and increasing bridge membership.  Jack to schedule session during Regional in Atlanta on Wed, Sept 1.  Jack will invite the ACBL Director of Marketing.       

·         Find out cost of an ad in the AJC, possibly near the Bobby Wolfe column Bill Burks is determining costs for a continuous ad in AJC.  Susan Wolfe has a 2nd line in her house, which could be used as the DBAA hot line.              

 

5.  New Business:

·            Lighting at Atl Sectional: Nancy Watkins reported that significant numbers of people who attended the last Atl Sectional, where unhappy with the poor lighting at the Hilton Hotel.  Two suggestions were proposed. One by Beatrice is to purchase individual lights, the other by Dan to purchase or rent theatrical lighting to illuminate the room.  Neither suggestion was acted upon due to the uncertainty of remaining at the Hilton.  Gaby will check with the Hilton management about getting better lighting from the ceiling lamps.

·            Future Atlanta Sectionals:  Still under review
