3.  Old Business:

·      Atlanta Regional: All directors/club owners/instructors/and interested people will be invited to a “Brain Storming” session on Wednesday, Sept 1 between sessions at the Atlanta Regional.  The purpose of the open session is to discuss and develop ideas on increasing bridge membership, supporting teachers/instructors financially, and increasing the number of teachers/instructors for bridge.  Jack will invite the ACBL Director of Marketing to facilitate the discussion.

·      Ad Costs in AJC: Find out cost of an ad in the AJC, possibly near the Bobby Wolfe columnBill Burks is determining costs for a continuous ad in AJC .  Susan Wolfe has a 2nd line in her house, which could be used as the DBAA hot line.

4.  New Business:

·         Lighting at Atlanta Sectional:  Low lighting is still a major issue for the people attending the Atlanta Sectional at the Hilton Hotel.  A suggestion was made to see if a person in the lighting business could advise us on ways to increase the lighting at the hotel.  Of course, the hotel would have to approve of this idea.

·         Social Bridge Proposal from Patty Tucker and Samuel Marks:  In an effort to promote bridge in the greater Atlanta area, Patty and Sam presented a proposal requesting funds from the DBAA for hosting an “Introduction to Duplicate Bridge for Social Bridge Players”.  On Tuesday, August 31 at 12:30 at the Atlanta Regional, a special session for social bridge players only, will offer instructions on completing a convention card, using bidding boxes, table movement, and other nuances of duplicate bridge.  Kathy Whidden will be asked to direct the session.  Club owners will be asked to attend to meet the people, bring their club schedules and help with the mechanics.  Advertisement will be done at the local clubs with posters and invitations; local and regional newspapers; bridge players will be encouraged to meet with social bridge groups and persons and deliver the invitations.  Financial assistance is needed for posters, invitations, refreshments, advertisements, and give-away prizes.  A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed to provide up to $500 for advertisement and up to $400 for supplies.  Patty stated that Unit 114 would repay DBAA for ½ the costs.

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.  Next meeting:  Wednesday, August 4, 2004 @ 6:00pm

Respectfully submitted,
