Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES
December 1, 2004
President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order. Present: Jack Feagin, Gaby Fadel, Kevin Collins, Beatrice Kemp, Sue Wolfe, Josie
Mitchell, and Carolyn Eckert. Guests: Bob Heller and Dan Plato
1. Minutes: October 20, 2004 DBAA Board meeting were approved.
2. Financial: Financials for September and October submitted.
3. Specialty Games:
Holiday Party: Dec 15, 2004. Claudia Feagin will get the food for the Holiday Party
4. Old Business:
Report on November Atlanta Sectional: Bob Heller reported there were 729 tables, down somewhat from previous
Sectionals, which resulted in a $65 loss. This loss probably resulted from on overstaffing per number of tables. The loss was not significant. The costs for storing and handling the MABC tables has gone from reasonable
to unreasonable because we now have to pay commercial housing pricing plus
higher moving cost. Mason Davis, who had previous housed the tables, is no longer able to do
so. The DBAA will look for solutions.
Mentoring Proposal: Dan Plato presented a proposal for funding a mentoring program that he
would initiate and supervise for a 3 month period from Jan to Mar. Life Masters would be paired up with non-life masters with interest in
improving their bridge game. Rules and regulations for both participants will be clearly printed out
and explained. The purpose is to increase bridge players’ knowledge of the game with the
anticipation they will continue to advance to higher levels with greater
participation in other bridge games. Funds would cover costs of advertising, printing, and paying for the Life
Master’s entrance fee of $7.00. The proposal called for funding of $1100, 50% of total anticipated costs. Jack suggested that Dan should also inquire about funding from ACBL and
Unit 114. A general discussion was held that some clubs have this type of program
and that the DBAA should provide help to the clubs to have this type of
program. Approved: Motion was submitted by Beatrice Kemp, 2nd and approved to fund Mentoring Programs at 25% of submitted anticipated
costs for all Bridge Clubs in DBAA that develop a mentoring program or
a similar type of program.
5. New Business:
Preparation of Slate for Elections of Officers and Unit Reps: Voting will be held at the Georgia State Unit 114 Almost Spring Sectional
held at the Roswell Community Center from Friday through Sunday with election results presented during the
Swiss game on Sunday, March 6, 2005.
Jack Feagin will designate a Nomination Committee Chairperson to prepare
the slate of candidates according to the bylaws. Possible names mentioned where Perry Alterman, Bill Kulbersh and/or John
Lowell.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn Eckert
