BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES                                      January 5, 2005

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.  Present:  Jack Feagin, Gaby Fadel, Beatrice Kemp, Josie Mitchell, Bill Burks and Carolyn Eckert. 

 

1.  Minutes:  December 1, 2004 DBAA Board meeting were approved with the addition of Bill Burks in attendance

 

2.  Financial:   Financials for November 2004 submitted

 

3.  Specialty Games: 

Unit Championship:  January 26, 2005

GNT: 1st Wed of next 3 months: Feb 2, March 2 and April 6

Change of Rank Party: April 27, 2005

 

4. Old Business:

Slate for Elections of Officers and Unit Reps:  Perry Alterman’s  Nominating Committee has prepared a slate for nomination to include: President: Jack Feagan and Bill Marks; Vice President: Sue Wolfe; Treasurer: Bill Burks; and Secretary: Carolyn Eckert.  Representatives to the GA State Unit 114 Board include: Beatrice Kemp, Josie Mitchell, Kevin Collins, Marty Nathan, Marijan Word.

 

Voting will be held at the Almost Spring Sectional at the RoswellCommunity Center from the first session on March 4 and continuing through the evening session of March 5th. Members will have the opportunity to vote an hour before the start of each session and a half hour after the session.

 

Any member who will be unable to vote in the election may request an absentee ballot from the Chairman of the Nominating Committee 10 days in advance of the election. When an absentee ballot is distributed, records will show that the member has voted. It will be the responsibility of the voting member to return the ballot to the Chairman by the end of the second session on Saturday.

 

If there is only one candidate running for each office or area representative vacancy, an election will not be held. The Chairman of the Nominating Committee will declare the candidate by acclamation at the annual meeting.

 

There can be an addition of any person(s) wishing to run for office whose name is not on the slate proposed by the Nominating Committee. Any such candidate may have their name put on the ballot by notifying in writing, the President, the Chairman of the Nominating Committee, or the Secretary, no less than 30 days prior to the date of the election. If required, an amended slate of candidates will be issued.

 

The Chairman of the Nominating Committee will announce the winners at the annual meeting held during the meal break of the Swiss Team event on the last day of the tournament, except in the case of a run-off. 5. New Business:

Lecture Series: DBAA is sponsoring a series of FREE lectures by well known guest speakers for the advancing bridge player.  In the past we have provided lessons for novice or C level players BUT this is something NEW!!!

The lecture series will be geared towards helping B level players become A level players or to help A level players improve and win more often in open competition. The lectures will be designed for players with experience and for those who are ready to learn about the more advance methods in common use by expert players.

The 1st lecture begins January 19th at 6:30 with Patty Tucker on "Serious 2nt and 3nt" for better slam.  The 2nd lecture is January 26th with Randy Pettit on making "5 level decisions".

Others lined up lecturing are Kevin Collins, Richard Freeman, Richard Burton, Jack Feagin
, Olin Hubert, Michael White, John Lowell and others to follow.  Each lecture is followed by the Wednesday night open stratified game at 7:30 p.m.

Meeting adjourned 7:30PM.
