Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES
February 2, 2005
President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order. Present: Jack Feagin, Beatrice Kemp, Josie Mitchell, Marty Nathan and
Carolyn Eckert.
1. Minutes: January 5th DBAA Board meeting minutes were approved.
2. Financial: No Financials submitted
3. Specialty Games:
GNT: 1st Wed of next 2 months: March 2 and April 6
Change of Rank Party: April 27, 2005. $300 was budgeted for food; Josie and Susan will make arrangements for
food.
4. Old Business:
Slate for Elections of Officers and Unit Reps: Perry Alterman’s Nominating Committee has prepared a slate for nomination. Voting will be held at the Almost Spring Sectional at the RoswellCommunity Center from the first session on March 4 and continuing through the evening session of
March 5th. Members will have the opportunity to vote an hour before the start of each
session and a half hour after the session.
Any member who will be unable to vote in the election may request an absentee
ballot from the Chairman of the Nominating Committee 10 days in advance of the election. Discussion centered on developing a form ‘to request an absentee ballot’
to facilitate members obtaining an absentee ballot if they were unable
to vote at the Roswell Sectional. Susan and Marty will develop the form and post it to the web page.
The Nominating Committee chaired by Perry Alterman address: 750 Park Avenue 14 W, Atlanta, GA30326 email: psalterman@comcast.net. tel. number 404-842-0445. Barbara Heller, Election Monitor: 1442 Winston Place, Decatur, GA30044, email: hellerb@mindspring.com.
The informational flyer on “What the Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta is”, developed by Susan Wolfe and prepared by Carolyn Eckert, was edited and
approved for publishing.
5. New Business:
Lecture Series: DBAA is continuing its series of FREE lectures by well known guest speakers for the advancing bridge player
on Wednesdays @ 6:30. The DBAA web site: www.Whidco/DBAA/ lists out the discussion and has an inventory of lecture information.
Bill Marks has emailed Jack objecting to the location of lecture series
at the AtlantaDuplicateCenter, and not circulating around to other clubs. Jack responded that any club could invite any of the guest speakers to
come to their club for presentations. No financial compensation is given to the speakers by DBAA or to Dan Plato
for the lecture series. DBAA rents the bridge facility each Wednesday night to host the game and
the lecture series.
Additional Sectionals: Unit 114 would like to have a membership meeting the first quarter in
2006. It is likely that Atlanta will host this March Sectional with Macon as a second option. Unit 114 can sanction 13 Sectionals during a one year period within the
unit area and must balance the time and place of each sectional to optimize
attendance and cost.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn Eckert
