3. New Business:
Separation of DBAA Association functions and DBAA Club functions:
A motion was presented, 2nd and approved to have:
- Minutes of the Duplicate Bridge Association meetings in reference to the
functions DBAA performs for education in bridge and other programs supporting
bridge in the 5 county areas of DBAA and the minutes will be posted on
the web.
- A Committee is appointed to plan for the Wednesday night game and its week
to week operations.
Proposal: Bridge Summer Camp for Kids by Patty Tucker:
A motion was presented, 2nd and approved to support a proposal by Patty Tucker to hold a Summer Camp
for Kids the week of July 11-15 at the FamilyLifeCenter at the corner of West Wesley and Peachtree Road. DBAA will provide 1) financial security should the cost of the program
exceed the income generated by fees from the students and 2) help Patty
to secure additional funds from Unit 114, District 7, and ACBL Education
Foundation. Attached below is the proposal submitted by Patty Tucker
Change of Rank Parties:
A motion was presented, 2nd and approved for DBAA to support local clubs within the 5 county area
of DBAA who have a Change of Rank Party during the months of March, April
and May. A letter and follow up phone call to Priscilla Smith, Dan Plato,
Bill Marks and Nancy Hetsko will be made by Carolyn Eckert explaining the
support would be as follows: 1) reimburse the club owner for a ‘free play’
for those who have achieved Life Master and above and who redeem the ‘invitation” sent to them by DBAA; 2) provide up to $40.00 to each club owner who has a Change of Rank Party
for a cake or refreshments. Receipts for reimbursements (invitation and food) should be sent to Bill
Burks at DBAA.
4. New Business:
Bob Heller, tournament chair of the Atlanta Sectionals, addressed the board
requesting information on the following:
- Lighting at the Hilton Hotel: the lighting is not good and Bob would like someone to look into adequate
lighting during the tournaments. Jack responded that if there is a solution
to the lighting, DBAA will be in favor of it.
- Housing for Tables: someone needs to explore options for storing the bridge tables.
- Sectionals will be held at the Hilton for May 2005, November 2005 and July 4, 2006. Our contract at the Hilton will expire after that time. Therefore, we need to identify a new host hotel.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn Eckert

Ref: Bridge Summer Camp for Kids
Date: 3/2/2005
I am going to offer a Summer Camp for Kids from July 11th
through July 15th at the FamilyLifeCenter at the corner of West Wesley and Peachtree Road. I will be charging for this camp.
I would also like to offer the children who take the course the ability
to play at the nationals the week following the course. I thought that
Thursday afternoon would be the best time as that would not conflict with
the regularly scheduled events.
I would like assistance from the DBAA in the following areas:
1) Help in advertising the camp (press releases, etc)
2) Assistance and coordination in arranging the game at the nationals
3) The loan of Bidding Boxes, Table Place Cards and Duplicate Boards
4) Financial assistance in the purchase of 3 ring binders and copying of the
course material
5) Possibly help when the course is being run if the amount of children exceeds
the number I feel I can comfortably teach (I don’t want to send anyone
away)
6) Assistance contacting any of the ‘big’ or ‘famous’ name players who might
be attending the nationals and be willing to drop in to the playing site
to see the children playing and say hello.
7) Other assistance and suggestions which I have not considered
I have contacted Linda Granell (ACBL Marketing director) and feel comfortable that the ACBL will provide
some advertising assistance and will supply diskettes of Bridge Base which
I can give to the students at no charge.
Barbara Heller, Bridge at Schools, has indicated that her organization
will provide financial assistance to children who would like to take the
course but are unable to afford the fee. I will also be amenable to charging
a lesser amount to children who need assistance.

Dear Sir,
In cooperation with the Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta and the
Bridge at Schools program, I will be offering a ‘Bridge Camp’ during the
summer for children to learn duplicate bridge.
Bridge is a game which develops many of the social and intellectual skills
which will benefit children as they mature. Bridge involves learning how
to react to defeat and victory, working together with your partner towards
success, mathematics, probabilities, higher order thinking skills and deductive
reasoning.
I would appreciate your support in making the information available to
the parents and students attending xxx xxx.
Thank you for your consideration.
Patty Tucker
