BOARD OF DIRECTORS January 11th MEETING MINUTES January 11, 2006
President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order. Present: Jack Feagin,
Susan Wolfe, Bill Burks, Josie Mitchell, Beatrice Kemp, Marty Nathan, Kevin
Collins, and Carolyn Eckert.
Items headlined in blue need future discussion and follow up.
1. Minutes: December 2005 minutes were approved with changes.
2. Financial: Nov and Oct Reports were approved. It was determined that Nancy Watlkins
did direct the Nov 23rd game for the DBAA. Marty Nathan noted that from previous financial reports
it appears that DBAA is losing money on the Wed night games. Historically,
we have not had financial gains on Wed night games, but primarily host
the games to promote bridge. Bill Burks was requested to give a summary report on the past two years
so we can compare finances and table count for these games.
3. Old Business:
Housing for Tables: Bill Burks bought 3 dollies and took 100 MABC tables to store in Larry
Rich’s basement. Bill will be reimbursed for a rental U-Hall truck, 3
dollies, mileage and reasonable costs for whatever # of tables that are
moved.
4. New Business:
Regional Schedule : Jack has outlined a new schedule of events to accommodate two major groups
of players: 1) Atlanta residents who like the daytime events and 2) Players who prefer the traditional
time of afternoon and evening events. This version will be submitted to
MABC for editing. Events for the traditional times of 9:30, 1:30 and 7:30 are in place as well as events scheduled for 10:30 and 3:00 to include 2 sessions for daytime players. All times are subject to MABC
changes. Junior Youth Games are no included in all sectionals and regionals.
We would like to revisit the concept of the Social Bridge Game at the Labor
Day Regional 2006. The idea will be discussed further with Patty to see
if she is interested.
Patty Tucker address the board giving an update on her Junior Bridge Lesson
held on two Saturdays a month as well her upcoming program for 16 girls
at the Atlanta Girls Club for three week.
The Atlanta Junior Bridge Group, a dedicated group of players who promote
bridge for youngsters, would like to host a sanctioned monthly Junior Game
for youngsters in the Atlanta area. The Atlanta Duplicate Bridge Center (ADBC) has offered free space
and supplies for the game. A request was made and approved for DBAA to
acquire a separate sanction under its club membership for the Junior Games.
DBAA will underwrite all fees charged by ACBL for these. For the current
time, all Junior Games will be FREE and held on the first Saturday of each
month. Bill Burks will apply to ACBL for the sanction.
Patty reported that her lessons for youngster on Saturday was approved
and applauded by all local area clubs. Nicholas Hammond will visit the
WestminsterSchool which is presently hold a bridge game for there students.
Patty reported that Andre Asbury, a student at GA Tech, said there is currently
no bridge game at the Tech, would be willing to play in a gamer there but cannot assist with the development
of a bridge program at the Tech.
