BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES |
Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta
www.WhidCo.com/DBAA/Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta Board of Directors – Meeting Minutes April 4, 2007 President Jack Feagin
called the meeting to order. Present: Jack Feagin, Judy Fendrick, Donna Holland,
Bob Heller, Richard Browne, Richard Holland and Nicolas Hammond. Items
highlighted in blue require future discussion and/or follow-up action. 1. Minutes: March 7, 2007 minutes were approved. 2. Financial: No reports presented. 3. Special Games: Change of Rank Party: Timeframe for DBAA clubs to
have their Change of Rank Party is May 1 to June 15. Each club will need to promote and advertise
their party. Change of rank flyers will
be mailed and used as free plays by the honorees at one game of their
choice. Up to $50 will be reimbursed to
clubs for refreshments. Bob moved to have this
year’s party recognize those who achieve rankings with 100, 200, 300 and above
points. Susan amended the motion to
recognize those who achieve Regional, NABC, Life Master and above. Richard Holland seconded the motion. Motion approved. 4. New Business: Phone Books - Jack will try and get the phone books to Kennesaw Bridge Club. Communications Committee - Susan moved to create a Communications Committee to
make recommendations to the DBAA board for update and oversight of the DBAA
webpage and use of e-mail lists. Susan volunteered
to chair the committee. Judy seconded
the motion. Motion approved. DBAA Area Expansion: Dick Browne moved to have
Cherokee and Forsyth Counties to be part of DBAA, as requested by ACBL members
in those counties. Our current by-laws
would need to be changed because currently it provides that expansion is
subject to the Unit’s approval. We
should not try to bring in other Areas unless they have voted and expressed an
interest in joining DBAA. A vote would
need to be organized. Bob provided a
document reflecting the unit re-districting recommendation in July. The proposal adds Forsyth and Cherokee
Counties to Area 4, which will probably then be known as “Metro.” This will expand the number of bridge players
in the Area by 100 to 150, and will increase the number of members on the Unit
Board. The Unit will define the
Area. If DBAA wants to incorporate the
new Areas, the DBAA board may need to expand.
Donna moved that if
Cherokee and Forsyth Counties create a petition to become a member of the DBAA,
we will vote on it and will address this as a change in our by-laws. Motion
approved. Rising Tournament Costs – We recently learned that the Birmingham Regional
has been rescheduled to the same week as the Roswell Sectional in March 2008. Roswell Center cannot change the date. Dick Myers is working to get an agreement
with the Holiday Inn that is one mile from the Roswell Bridge Club at a
reasonable cost. This would be an option
for either the December or March tournament.
Magnolia Manor is scheduled to reopen as a Doubletree, but there is no
guarantee it will reopen by December.
Hilton does not want our business.
Jonathan has suggested we could do a sectional at the club in
conjunction with another building close by.
The Holiday Inn across from the Hilton on Peachtree Industrial may be an
option. Ravinia will allow us to have a
Sectional when there is a sold-out city-wide convention and they have available
space. Jack suggested we explore other hotel options
to ensure we have good venues. Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm. Next
meeting: Wednesday, May 2, 2007 @ 6:15
pm Respectfully submitted,
