Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta

Board of Directors – Meeting Minutes

September 5, 2007

Present:  Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Judy Fendrick, Kevin Collins, Bob Heller, Nicolas Hammond and Richard Browne

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.

Items highlighted in blue require future discussion and/or follow-up action.

1.  Minutes:  The Board members reviewed and approved the minutes from the August 1 meeting.

2.  Financial:  No reports presented.

3.  Old Business:

Budget/Business Plan – Jack has requested a summary of the 2006 Treasurer’s Reports from Donna.  The 2006 revenue included receipts from the Regional in December 2005.  Sectional tournaments are losing money.  Despite higher attendance at the July sectional, the tournament sustained a loss of $2,000.  We will consider long-term plans to increase bridge participation and review the DBAA financial summary for 2006 and 2007 at our next meeting.  Bob moved that the DBAA consider raising the entry fee for sectional tournaments.  Motion approved.

Atlanta Junior Bridge (AJB)AJB needs a decision from DBAA on the $6,000 request for funding by our next meeting on October 3.

4.  New Business:

Wednesday Night DBAA Game – The Wednesday night game has operated at a loss for at least a year.  Jack requested reports for the 2006 and 2007 revenue and expenses for the Wednesday game.  The Charity games are currently the only games in which DBAA charges $1 extra per person.  ACBL charges an additional $4 fee per table for special games such as North American Pairs qualifying and International Fund, and an additional $11 per table for Instant Matchpoint games.  Options to reduce expenses were tabled until we have the reports for 2006 and 2007.  Susan moved to change the policy for the Wednesday night game to charge an additional $1 per person for all special games.  Motion approved.

Friendship Game - Jack suggested that in order to build up the games, we should ask players to call and invite someone to play who has not played in awhile.  Other options to build up the games were discussed, including a Friendship game, Individual game, underwriting the cost of teachers/directors and conducting novice classes presented by an EasyBridge teacher. Nicolas moved that we organize a Friendship Game to be held on the Wednesday night game.  Motion approved.

Jack will contact Jan regarding announcements of special games.

Future Tournaments – Jack met with sales representatives at the Ravinia.  We expect to sign agreements for future years.  We may need to find another Partnership Desk coordinator.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.

Next meeting:  Wednesday, October 3, 2007 @ 6:15 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Fendrick
