Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta Board of Directors – Meeting Minutes February 6, 2008
Present: Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Judy Fendrick, Donna Holland, Richard Holland, Richard Browne, Kevin Collins, Bob Heller and Nicolas Hammond
President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.
Items highlighted in blue require future discussion and/or follow-up action.
1. Minutes: The Board approved the minutes from the January 9 meeting.
2. Financial: None presented.
3. Old Business:
Sectional Tournaments – Some DBAA members have requested that we hold more Sectional tournaments at the Roswell hotels. Bob will check on this. We requested to hold the Spring 2009 Sectional at the Roswell Senior Center. It is available only one weekend per year, which will be March 1, 2009.
Sectionals at Clubs – Follow-up ideas from our last meeting were discussed. Jack would like to put a proposal in writing for the board to review. One idea is to run the tournaments at different club locations, splitting A, B and C for KOs and Swiss. This would take into consideration the impact to clubs during a tournament.
Unit Election at Spring Sectional – Five new Unit reps were elected last year. The Unit will decide the terms of the reps being elected and will handle all election activities. Ballots may be done by e-mail. Deadline for nominations is February 25.
DBAA Website – Larry’s fee to maintain the DBAA website is $60 per quarter. We need to have our website as a top link on Google. Having the link pop up from key words (Atlanta Bridge) would help. We could pay to have this. We also need to review the Raleigh Bridge site for ideas.
Change of Rank Party– We will send the Change of Rank flyers out to all players who achieved the rank of Regional Master (100 + points) or above. Judy will mail the flyers by February 15.
4. New Business:
Sponsoring Teacher Courses – We submitted a brief article for the District 7 News to solicit interest of individuals interested in taking a TAP seminar or other Bridge Teacher course. The Unit may be willing to co-sponsor a teacher training program. One suggestion was to investigate setting up lessons/games in local subdivision clubhouses. Patty is setting up a one-time course to raise money for AJB. Another suggestion was to set up a two-day course for a Saturday and Sunday of 4-5 hours each day. We need some good teachers and a location, which may be a Community Center. The Board will send ideas on this to Jack. Susan will check the East Cobber. Richard Holland moved that we explore locations to do a two-day training class. Motion approved.
E-Mail Address Listing – ACBL can provide a list of people who have not played in six months. When sending out e-mails, we will provide players with an e-mail contact for more information. This listing would be useful in conjunction with the Friendship Game.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
Next meeting: Wednesday, March 5, 2008 – 6:15 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Fendrick Judy Fendrick, Secretary |
