Board of Directors – Meeting Minutes

March 5, 2008

Present:  Jack Feagin, Susan Wolfe, Judy Fendrick, Donna Holland, Richard Holland, Richard Browne, Kevin Collins, Bob Heller and Nicolas Hammond

President Jack Feagin called the meeting to order.

Items highlighted in blue require future discussion and/or follow-up action.

1.  Minutes:  The Board approved the minutes from the February 6 meeting.

2.  Financial:   None presented.  Donna gave Marty Nathan the records for the financial audit.

3.  Old Business:

Sectional Tournaments – The upcoming Sectional for March 26-30 is scheduled for the new Doubletree.  We will be the first customers for the hotel after it re-opens.  The restaurant will not be open.

·         Spring, 2009 - Bob submitted an official request to the Roswell Senior Center for the weekend of March 1, 2009.  If it is unavailable, we will try for the Holiday Inn in Roswell.

·         Summer, 2009 – The Ravinia would be a good site for this tournament based on the expected large turnout.  Jack will check with the Ravinia.  We would estimate 150 rooms for 5 days or pay rent to make up the difference.

Sectionals at ClubsJack will put together a proposal for this.

DBAA Website – The Board members agreed that the site needs to contain the archived results of DBAA games, indexing on the left side of the screen, but with a format similar to the Raleigh Bridge Club’s site.  The process of website design needs to start with a high-level listing of requirements.  Judy will send this to Jack for review.  We will then need to provide the functional specifications to Larry, and then the design specifications.  Nicolas will send the board a recommended design process to follow.

Sponsoring Teacher Courses – Dick Browne indicated the River Club clubhouse near Martin’s Landing has a decent facility we could use for classes.  He spoke to the clubhouse manager (Bill Nelms) about this.  Jack and Dick will confirm the details with Bill Nelms.  We would provide the bridge tables and supplies.  This facility is available almost every night.  Lessons would be for one hour per week plus time to play after the lesson.  We would probably offer the first four lessons for free.  One benefit of using this facility is that they have a monthly newsletter and a website.  Bill Marks may be available to teach, and also Roz Howell, who is an accredited teacher.  Classes will begin in May; we will need 5-6 weeks of lead time for advertising. Bob will check with the Unit on providing support for advertising.  We need to simultaneously launch two advertising programs in local papers and AJC Calendar, both of which are free.  After discussion of teacher cost, Richard Holland moved to authorize $500 to cover teacher reimbursement for eight weeks of lessons.  Motion approved.

4.  New Business:

DBAA By-Laws – Bob referenced some of the changes we need to consider making to the DBAA By-Laws, including no DBAA rep to the Unit, determination of reps’ terms and DBAA elections.  Bob will highlight the suggested changes to the DBAA By-Laws in Word and send to the Board electronically for review.

Annual DBAA Membership MeetingWe will hold this meeting at the July Sectional, and will announce the date and time of the meeting three weeks in advance of the tournament.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.

Next meeting:  Wednesday, April 2, 2008 – 6:15 pm

Respectfully submitted,
