Prior Minutes

MOTION:  Susan moved to approve the October 1 meeting minutes.  Motion approved.

Classes at Martin’s Landing

Dick Browne reported on the four weeks of classes held so far.  Class sizes were 15, 19, 16 and 16.  Three additional classes will be held, with the seventh class being a game/practice session.  Elaine Norcross is working as an unpaid volunteer for each class.  A letter of appreciation will be sent to her at the conclusion.  Bill Marks attended one of the classes to discuss his lessons.

DBAA will provide free plays to the students to play at a DBAA club of their choice.  Mary Jo will sign and date them for authentication.

ACTION ITEM:  Judy will prepare a Word document for free plays and include an expiration date of 90 days from the date signed.

ACTION ITEM:  We need to prepare a schedule of the limited games to be posted on the DBAA website.

Classes at Sandy Springs

The classes will start in January.  We need to promote the classes in local publications and possibly a handout at the Sectional tournament.

ACTION ITEM:  Jack will try and get an announcement in the local newspaper.

ACTION ITEM:  Dick will talk to Mary Jo about teaching at the Sandy Springs location.

DBAA General Liability Insurance

As requested, Ralph checked with the insurance broker on cost for getting liability coverage for the DBAA officers and tournament directors for Sectional tournaments.  The broker’s ballpark estimate was $1,000.  Ralph also checked with Macon, and they pay an additional premium for coverage at their tournaments.  Jack indicated that ACBL provides liability coverage for the Unit at tournaments, and as an agent for the Unit, DBAA is insured at tournaments.

MOTION:  Susan moved to pursue additional liability coverage for DBAA officers and tournament directors at Sectional tournaments.  Motion denied.

The DBAA now has liability coverage for the weekly DBAA game.

DBAA Website

The updated DBAA website is now available.  Barbara stated she could get the DBAA website password from Larry so that routine updates could be made.

Pictures from Tournaments

Jack stated that many years ago, Polaroid pictures were routinely taken at the Atlanta tournaments.  He kept the pictures through the years, and suggested it might generate a lot of interest from the players if we reinstituted this process again.  The Board discussed the logistics to implement.  We will need a volunteer to be available to take digital pictures of the winners immediately following the games, starting with the I/N games at the next Sectional tournament.  We then need to have the pictures uploaded, edited if needed, captioned for winners’ names/events and finalized for viewing on the website as soon as possible after the tournament.  We recognize that digital pictures take up a lot of server space, even if compressed.

The Board also discussed that we could scan Jack’s pictures to provide a history of bridge in Atlanta on our website.

Meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.

Next meeting:  Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 5:45 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel on LaVista Road.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Fendrick
