2011 Sportsman of the Year

Mike Kovacich of Altanta was elected the Unit 114 Sportsperson of the Year for 2011 at the Conyers Sectional.  Runner up is Jerry Tift of Macon.

Unit 114 has elected Mike Kovacich as 2011 Sportsperson of the Year.

 

The Sportsperson of the Year is awarded to that player who best exemplifies the high standards of sportsmanship, conduct and ethics expected in the game of Bridge.

 

Mike not only observes the ethics and laws of bridge, he is considered an expert on them. He has been a member of the National Appeals Committee since 2004.

 

Mike is one of the top players in Atlanta and has had several high finishes in National Events. He has been the Unit 114 masterpoint leader from 2003 to 2010 and in 2010 won over 1,000 masterpoints.

 

Sam Marks had this to say about Mike, “From personal experience I can assure you that Mike is always pleasant when he plays with me. He is gracious in both victory and defeat. He is at the top of my list when it comes to partners and teammates.”

 

Mike’s devotion to the game of bridge is longstanding. He has been president of Unit 114, District 7 and the MABC. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Governors. 

 

Locally he has co-chaired many Atlanta Sectionals and been active in hosting Atlanta NABCs.

 

In 2009 Mikes many contributions to bridge were recognized by his induction into the Georgia State Unit 114 Bridge Hall of Fame.
