Unit 114 has elected Mike Kovacich as 2011 Sportsperson of the Year.
The Sportsperson of the Year is awarded to that player who best exemplifies
the high standards of sportsmanship, conduct and ethics expected in the
game of Bridge.
Mike not only observes the ethics and laws of bridge, he is considered
an expert on them. He has been a member of the National Appeals Committee
since 2004.
Mike is one of the top players in Atlanta and has had several high finishes in National Events. He has been the
Unit 114 masterpoint leader from 2003 to 2010 and in 2010 won over 1,000
masterpoints.
Sam Marks had this to say about Mike, “From personal experience I can assure
you that Mike is always pleasant when he plays with me. He is gracious
in both victory and defeat. He is at the top of my list when it comes to
partners and teammates.”
Mike’s devotion to the game of bridge is longstanding. He has been president
of Unit 114, District 7 and the MABC. He is currently Chairman of the Board
of Governors.
Locally he has co-chaired many Atlanta Sectionals and been active in hosting
Atlanta NABCs.
In 2009 Mikes many contributions to bridge were recognized by his induction
into the Georgia State Unit 114 Bridge Hall of Fame.
