September 18, 2004  Peachtree City

The Unit 114 meeting held at the PeachtreeCity sectional, Sept. 18, 2004, was called to order at 5:15 pm by vice-president Nancy Hetsko.    Members in attendance: Harpe Suggs, Ann Hedden, Gabriel Fadel, Josie Mitchell, Barbara Heller, Bob Heller, Janet Sherwood, Joe Sherwood, Kevin Collins, Beatrice Kemp, Mary Ann Bateman, Betty Myers, Dick Myers, Nancy Hetsko, Larry Rich and Steve Meadows, Guru Shysamsundar, Pat Clemens and Susan Wolfe.
 

Susan Wolfe moved and Kevin Collins seconded that we approve the minutes. Motion accepted.

 

Treasurer's report – Larry Rich moved and Harpe Suggs seconded for the report to be accepted. The report was accepted and a copy is attached at the end of these minutes

Our tournament coordinator, Bob Heller passed out the 2005 Unit sectional calendarWe have signed a contract with the Roswell Recreation and
PartsDepartmentAdultRecreationCenter for the dates of March 4-6 for the Unit sponsored sectional.   This will be a 3-day, 9 session tournament that will host the Unit 114 Knockout Championship which will start on Friday night.   A vote was taken to determine the starting timesAn 8:00 pm start on Friday and Saturday will be used. 

 

If anyone is interested in obtaining the district-wide calendar please send Bob an emailHe reported on the District STAC policy that was establishedThere will be only 3 STACs a year for the whole districtOne will be a District 10 fundraiser for the NABCs, Secondly, there will be a District 7 wide STAC benefiting each unit based upon participation and third will be the MABC STACLarry Rich made the motion and Joe Sherwood seconded it that the money that is returned from the District 7 STAC be passed back to the clubs in our unit that participated based upon table countThis motion was amended by Barbara Heller to apply to the 2005 STAC only and to be revisited before this determination is made for future yearsThe amendment was accepted and the motion passed unanimously.

Dick Myers gave a trophy reportThe complete report is included as an attachment to these minutes at the bottomBarbara Heller moved that we give the top Unit 114 finishing pair or individual in the NAP District 7 final the NAP trophy that had been establishedGabriel Fadel secondedTwo opposed and the motion passed. 

 

North American Pairs -Ann Hedden reported that our district final is in AugustaThe results from today’s NAP game determine who will represent our Unit thereThis is the last year the Unit will be running this NAP qualifying gameIn the future, the District 7 board has decided to eliminate the unit final stage AFTER this year.  

 

Grand National Teams -There are five district semifinal sites this year. Alpharetta is holding a Flight B event on Saturday, March 26, and a Flight C event on Saturday, April 2. Please encourage all clubs to run the GNT qualifiers. Anyone can play in the Championship and A flights upon qualification at the club levelThe District has lowered its charge to the clubs, so the fee for the game should not be as large as in years past.

Barbara Heller reported that the Fitzgerald DBC is closingBetty Manning has resigned as Eatonton contact and the new contact is:

Pips ‘n Tips- Barbara Heller moved that we authorize Bob Heller to proceed with securing the pages for the March District 7 insertDick Myers secondedMotion passedWe ask each club to submit information for these pagesThey will also include the notification of the annual meeting at the
Roswell sectional on Saturday and we ask that the notification of the annual meeting be placed on the Roswell sectional flyer as well.

 

Barbara Heller reported that the District has established a Goodwill District member of the year award based upon the membership of each unitOur unit will have to establish its own policy as to how its members to this committee are to selectedMore details are to follow from the district, but we need to formulate our plan at the January Macon meeting so please ask for suggestions from your clubsAnyone who is on the National Goodwill Committee at present automatically will be on the District Committee so they will not have to be considered by the unit. 

 

Harpe Suggs reported that the Warner Robins game has moved across the street to 151 Maple StreetThey are asking that the unit grant permission for them to become an open club instead of an invitational oneJanet Sherwood moved, Mary Ann Bateman seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

 

Nancy Hetsko reported as our unit education liaison that she is coordinating the dates for a Club Manager meeting at one our upcoming sectionalsIt cannot be done in Atlanta during the November sectional and clubs will be notified as the date and details when all arrangements have been madePlease encourage your clubs to participate

The unit board's next meeting will be between sessions
Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the Macon sectional. Make your plans now to attend, and be sure to notify Barbara Heller at hellerb@mindspring.com to ensure a meal.
